No Longer Broken

Debbie Hennessey

Long awaited third full-length cd from Award Winning singer & songwriter Debbie Hennessey, produced by guitarist Jeffery Marshall.

No Longer Broken contains nine brand new songs of contemporary country, rock, and blues all in Debbie’s distinctive and soulful voice and was produced and mixed by guitarist/co-writer Jeffery “Big Red” Marshall at Red Rover Productions. The cd features an impressive list of top-notch LA musicians and was mastered by Grammy Winner Paul Wickcliff.

No Depression Magazine's review of the new cd No Longer Broken: "Sometimes the boulevard of broken dreams is really a highway of smashed hearts. Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Debbie Hennessey been down that road. But No Longer Broken is in the past tense; she's looking in her rearview mirror, leaving the dashed hopes and bad shit behind. This is honest talk from a strong woman; however, the music is brimming with infectious pop/rock melodies even when the lyrics are tossing poison darts. Hennessey epitomizes the rootsy side of Adult Album Alternative, essentially classic rock with a contemporary edge. While there are country flavors in the grooves, this is definitely a West Coast record, more Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne than Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash. On "Every Song is You," Hennessey's voice recalls the plaintive croon of Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac while producer Jeffery Marshall's riffs give the track a Wallflowers kick. The title cut offers a feeling of emotional uplift from all the heartache. "One touch from you/And I'm no longer broken," Hennessey sings, and killer slide guitar makes it all go down soulful and easy. When Hennessey lets it rip, she doesn't hold back. "Liar, cheater," she rages on in "You Can't Unpull a Trigger." The mean harmonica captures the anguish in her singing. On "Let Me Go," Hennessey leaves her soul bare - and the listener breathless. Breaking up may be hard to do, but it's worth it if it inspires albums as excellent as this." - Stacey Zering, No Depression

“Debbie’s unique singer/songwriter artistry carries a comfortable strength in her solid vocal performance and interpretations… known for her solid stage performance, the tracks chosen on (Rustic Heart) are sure fire hits played live. “Hennessey's excellent album, Rustic Heart, has more than a few nice things going for it. Among them: great material, a lovely voice and terrific production by Rye Randa. It's a true indie album, yet it sounds as well-crafted as most tracks you hear on the airwaves. As the title suggests, there is a bit of country in these eight songs of love and/or heartache.” - The G-Man, NoHoLA Magazine

Hallelujah - Single

Debbie Hennessey

Award winning singer Debbie Hennessey's powerful rendition of the Leonard Cohen classic, produced by Rye Randa

So, here's my story and I'm sticking to it...because it's true! Apparently, I've been living under a rock for the last 30 years because I had never heard this song until I saw kd lang sing it at the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics. I know that may be hard to believe but it's true. Considering the tens of thousands of songs I've heard over the years it is possible that it crossed my path but if so, it didn't make any kind of a mark. When I heard kd sing the song I was just floored, by the song and by her performance. I thought it was one of the most beautiful songs I'd ever heard. I wanted to record it. Of course, I immediately jumped on the web to find out more about it and was shocked and bummed to find out it had been recorded over 200 times.

Ok, so not one of my most original ideas. I really wanted to record it but was concerned that the recording and I would be dismissed as an unoriginal hack. Then one of my best buddies suggested that I just record it for myself and that if I liked how it came out then my fans would like it too. So I did just that and I am so happy I did. I wish everyone could feel the way I feel when I sing this song. It feels as if it is coming from my soul. I hope that comes through when you hear it and that you enjoy it.

There is a reason this beautiful song has been recorded so many times. Thank you Leonard Cohen for writing such a musical gift!

Once again, I am thrilled to have worked with producer Rye Randa, who also produced my cd's Good As Gone and Rustic Heart; and multi-Grammy winner Gavin Lurssen who mastered this track along with my cd's Good As Gone and Winter Wonderland. - dh

Please Come Home for Christmas

Debbie Hennessey

Rocking Blues version of the Christmas classic by Award Winning Singer Debbie Hennessey, produced by Jeffery Marshall.

My holiday release this year is a rocking blues version of the holiday classic Please Come Home For Christmas. Originally recorded in the 60's by one of its co-writers Charles Brown, this song has been covered by many artists, from the Eagles classic version to Bon Jovi to Cee Lo Green. I always thought it was a great song but the more we worked on it the more I came to love it. Produced Jeffery Marshall/Red Rover Records who also provided all the guitars, the track includes Lao Tizer on piano and organ, Kevin Chown on bass and Andrew Megna on drums. I hope you'll put a little rocking blues in your stocking this year with Please Come Home For Christmas! - dh
