From the recording Additional Projects
This song was inspired by a poem by my friend Charles Clifford Brooks III called Blues Solo. I took the poem to a writting session with Sunny Hilden and John DePatie a few years back where we used some of Cliff's lines and the mood of the poem to come up with this blues song called State of Grace. So it was a very cool collaboration between all four of us. This was before Cliff published his book of poems called The Draw of Broken Eyes & Whirling Metaphysics. Since then he has been nominated for 2 Pushcarts, a Pulitzer in Poetry, and Georgia Author of the Year! Recently his friend Holly Holt created a picture video for this track and you can view that here on my YouTube channel under Debbie's Music Videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL407DC6C338509698
For music supervisors: There is also a male version of this song.
Lyrics
State of Grace
By Debbie Hennessey, Sunny Hilden, John DePatie & Charles Clifford Brooks
Some roads snake on all evening
Like a prophet who takes me for a ride,
This road of silence climbs a mountain
Redemption sleepin’ on the other side...
CHORUS:I’m movin’ on, so movin’ on,
Wherever I can find my place,
Whatever I need to face,
I’m movin’ on, just like the dawn,
Movin’.........to the state of grace...
Some truth hits like a freight train,
Leaving sorrow that drives your dreams insane,
This truth rises like morning
To wake me with a drifting sheet of rain...
CHORUS:I’m movin’ on, so movin’ on,
Wherever I can find my place,
Whatever I need to face,
I’m movin’ on, just like the dawn,
Movin’.........to the state of grace...
BRIDGE:I’m standin’ my ground
By not hangin’ around,
Gotta find my better day
Away from regret,
All I long to forget,
Getting’ out of my own way....
CHORUS:I’m movin’ on, so movin’ on,
Wherever I can find my place,
Whatever I need to face,
I’m movin’ on, just like the dawn,
Movin’.........to the state of grace...
I’m movin’......................................to the state of grace...
